Congratulations to Sachin Giri Selected as Top-10 Finalists for IGARSS 2026 Student Paper Competition
The Mechatronics, Embedded Systems and Automation (MESA) Lab is proud to announce that PhD student Sachin Giri has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Student Paper Competition (SPC) (https://2026.ieeeigarss.org/spc.php) at 2026 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium in Washington, D.C. https://2026.ieeeigarss.org/
Out of more than 250 international submissions, Sachin’s paper was chosen as one of the top 10 entries. His research, titled "Beyond Accuracy: A Monte Carlo Dropout Framework for Decomposing Predictive Uncertainty in Multi-Modal Methane Plume Segmentation," focuses on improving the reliability of methane detection leveraging fusion of satellite and aircraft borne hyperspectral imagery—a critical component of the ongoing work on Greenhouse gas (Methane) detection and quantification, https://methane.ucmerced.edu/.
Advised by Professor YangQuan Chen, Sachin’s work utilizes multi-modal sensor fusion and advanced uncertainty estimation to move beyond simple detection, providing a deeper understanding of model confidence in environmental monitoring.
As a finalist, Sachin will present his findings to the IEEE GRSS Symposium Award Committee this August. Top 3 winners will be announced during the IGARSS 2026 Award Ceremony on August 13, 2026.
Please join us in congratulating Sachin on this outstanding recognition of his hard work and contribution to the field of remote sensing! The conference received total of 2500 initial sumbissions.
