MESA Lab Alumnus Jonathan Gonzalez won the Capstone Prize - Congratulations!

Jonathan Gonzalez was our paid undergraduate research interns and a ME195 class member, a Digital Twin class (ME190) member. He works with Ph.D. student Shiang Cao and other MESA Lab members on material classification using Walabot, biogas eletricity generator study etc. He coauthored a paper on "A portable microwave radar array based material classification using SpectrogramFace recognition and GoogLeNet". (presented at 2024 20th IEEE/ASME International Conference on Mechatronic and Embedded Systems and Applications (MESA) Genova, Italy).

Precision: Wine Wise Development

Working with Gallo Winery, Dan Fraser, Eriverto Jimenez, Efren Lizarraga, Jesus Acevedo and Jonathan Gonzalez were tasked with addressing alignment issues along the production line. Their project addressed this challenge by designing a modified driveshaft system tailored to the winery's needs. Inspired by the mechanics of an automotive driveshaft, the team's design allows for controlled deformation of the inner rod under stress, preventing complete line shutdowns. The improved driveshaft system will enhance production efficiency and contribute to cost savings by minimizing maintenance interventions and part replacements.
