Brandon Stark Guest Lectures in ENGR 065

November 30, 2012

MESA LAB Manager Brandon Stark guest lectured in ENGR 065: Circuit Theory for Dr. Dou.

Mr. Stark used music as a tool for reinforcing the concepts of frequency domain analysis and the use of RC low- and high-pass filters.  The majority of undergraduate students listen to music on a regular basis and have developed an intuitive sense of what bass and treble sounds are.  By mapping these sounds to frequency domain gain plots, the students are more likely to internalize frequency domain analysis.  The students were introduced to the frequency response of RC filters and how they affect the system gain across the frequency domain.  Second and third order filters were also introduced to demonstrate how the differences in attenuation affects the sound.  Overall, the lecture was well received.  On the otherhand, the students were forced to Carly Rae Jepson's "Call Me Maybe" for an hour straight.
